Description:

Release to commemorate the 300th anniversary of Antonio Giannettini's death! The oratorio "Man at the Crossroads" by Marco Mencoboni & Cantar Lontano! This is the 300th anniversary album of the death of Antonio Giannettini (1649-1721), a little-known composer of the Italian Baroque period. Giannettini worked at the Basilica di San Marco (St. Mark's Basilica) in Venice, first as a singer and later as an organist, and from 1686 until his death, he was music director of the Modena Court, where he wrote about 20 stage works, oratorios, cantatas, masses, and other religious works. His oratorio "L'Umo In Bivio" (The Man at the Crossroads), written in 1867, shortly after his reception at the Modena court, is a fascinating account of an angel and a devil fighting for the soul of a young man. Performed by Marco Mencoboni, a renowned Italian chamber musician and organist, this is his first appearance with Glossa since Monteverdi's Madrigale collection (GCD923512).The master musician, who studied under Ton Koopman and Gustav Leonhardt and was a member of Jordi Savard's Esperion XX, and the ensemble Cantar Lontano, of which he is the soloist and director, will bring us closer to Giannettini's charms that have been buried in history. The concert will be held at the Tokyo M-Plus Theater in Tokyo, Japan. Tokyo M-Plus
