Clementi (1752-1832)
Description:
Born four years before Mozart and living longer than Beethoven, Clementi lived 80 years, a long life for his time, and his keyboard works explore the expressive and performance technical possibilities that accompanied the development of the instrument from harpsichord to piano. Although Clementi was an important composer who played a pioneering role in Beethoven's career, his sonatas and other major works are rarely performed today, except for some sonatinas and the instructional book "Gradus ad Parnassum" used for teaching purposes. This album explores the evolution of Clementi's style, focusing on his Op. 1 sonata dedicated to Peter Beckford, who served as his guardian in England, and the op. 24 "F major sonata," which boasts a brilliant style.
