The EDI-USA MICH (ACH) Ballistic Helmet delivers Level IIIA / HG2 head protection for law enforcement and security professionals who need full-coverage ballistic defense with integrated tactical mounting hardware. Tested to NIJ IIIA (ambient) and HG2 (ambient) ballistic standards, it resists threats up to .44 Magnum — including 9mm and .357 SIG — and also meets STANAG 2920 (V50) fragmentation resistance standards. Standard configuration includes a pair of Picatinny side rails, a front NVG mount, two bungees, and external Velcro. Available in sizes S, M, L, and XL, in black or green, with tan available as a custom order.
This helmet is tested to NIJ Level IIIA (ambient) and HG2 (ambient), resisting ballistic threats up to .44 Magnum. Lower handgun threats — including 9mm and .357 SIG — fall within that coverage envelope. HG2 is the NIJ 0123.00 designation for handgun-rated ballistic helmets and aligns with the performance requirements previously associated with legacy Level IIIA.
In addition to handgun-rated ballistic performance, this helmet is tested to STANAG 2920 (V50) fragmentation standards, providing resistance against shrapnel and fragmentation threats. This helmet does not protect against rifle-caliber threats. No wearable ballistic helmet currently achieves rifle-level (RF2/RF3) protection against direct-fire rifle rounds.
The MICH (ACH) cut provides full wrap-around coverage from the forehead to the rear of the skull, with ear coverage extending the protective surface area beyond what a high-cut profile offers. The shell is constructed to resist the ballistic and fragmentation threats described above while remaining compatible with standard MICH-format accessories and mounting hardware.
The interior padding system is designed for maximum comfort, with individual pads that can be removed, repositioned, or cleaned using the integrated Velcro attachment system. The nylon suspension system adjusts to fit the wearer's head securely during use.
Two retention configurations are available: a rubber chin cup, or a double chin strap without a rubber chin cup. Specify your preference at the time of ordering. Optional upgraded inner suspension systems include a ratchet-dial adjustment knob or a BOA inner suspension knob system — contact us for details on these configurations.
Standard configuration ships with a pair of Picatinny side rails and a front NVG mount. The Picatinny rails accept flashlights, cameras, and other standard rail-compatible accessories. The front mount supports night vision devices in standard front-mount NVG formats. External Velcro panels accommodate patches and other soft-mount accessories. Two bungees are included.
An optional protective neck protector is available at Level II or Level IIIA ballistic rating — contact us to add this to your order.
Available in four sizes: S, M, L, and XL. Standard colors are black and green. Tan and other custom colors are available for special orders. Custom interior suspension configurations — including ratchet-dial and BOA systems — are also available. Contact us for custom color and suspension specifications or bulk procurement quotes.
It depends on your state. Ballistic helmets cannot be shipped to New York or Connecticut under state body armor restrictions. Additionally, under 18 U.S.C. § 931, anyone with a federal felony conviction for a crime of violence is prohibited from purchasing or possessing body armor. If you have questions about your state's regulations, contact us before placing your order.
Yes, these are the same performance bar expressed under two different NIJ standards. Level IIIA is the legacy NIJ 0101.06 designation for high-velocity handgun threats. HG2 is the current NIJ 0123.00 designation for ballistic helmets rated to the same handgun threat level — including .44 Magnum, 9mm, and .357 SIG. This helmet has been tested to both designations at ambient conditions.
No. This helmet is rated for handgun threats up to .44 Magnum and fragmentation threats per STANAG 2920. It does not protect against direct-fire rifle-caliber rounds. No currently available wearable ballistic helmet stops direct rifle fire at Level IV equivalent (RF3) performance — this is a physical and engineering limitation of the category, not a limitation specific to this model.
STANAG 2920 is a NATO standardization agreement that defines V50 ballistic limit testing for fragmentation threats — the velocity at which a specified fragment has a 50% probability of penetrating the material. Testing to this standard means the helmet has been evaluated for resistance against shrapnel and fragmentation, which are common secondary threats in tactical and military-adjacent operational environments.
It depends on the specific NVG device and bracket. The front mount accepts night vision devices in standard front-mount NVG formats. Compatibility with specific third-party mounts — such as Wilcox or Norotos — is not confirmed in available product documentation. Contact us for fitment questions on specific NVG systems before purchasing.
Yes. Custom colors beyond black and green (including tan) are available as special orders. Upgraded inner suspension options include a ratchet-dial adjustment knob and a BOA inner suspension knob system. An optional Level II or Level IIIA ballistic neck protector can also be added. Contact us to discuss custom configurations or bulk procurement requirements.
