The first work signed by US Virgin Records, released in 1989. Released in 1989, it was his first album after moving to New York. The album featured Brian Wilson (Beach Boys), Robbie Robertson (ex-The Band), Robert Wyatt (ex-Soft Machine), Yssou N'Dour, Art Lindsay, and many other guests. About half of the songs on this album are covers, including a cover of an Okinawan folk song and a cover of a Rolling Stones song, and the arrangements are excellent, almost like folk music. The track list differs from country to country, and the Japanese version was chosen at the request of the artist. The Japanese version includes "Adagio," an arrangement of Samuel Barber's work (the original was used in the movie "Platoon").
