Sergei Vasil'Yevich Rakhmaninov
Description:
Sergei Rachmaninoff, the greatest Russian composer of the 20th century, was a virtuoso piano virtuoso who was not afraid to use his superb technique. He began recording for RCA in 1919, the year he left Russia for the United States to escape the difficulties of the Revolution, and continued to record for the label uninterruptedly until 1942, the year before his death. This album contains mainly Schumann's Carnival and Chopin's Piano Sonata No. 2, two of Rachmaninoff's favorite works, which he also gave many piano recitals. It is a very interesting album to hear how Rachmaninoff played Schumann and Chopin in the first half of the 20th century. (C)RS
