When NAXOS decided to tackle the complete piano works of Liszt (1811-1886), many Liszt aficionados must have muttered, "What about the Paganini Exercises? I am sure that many Liszt aficionados must have muttered, "What about the Paganini Exercises? After all, the first edition is known to be too difficult, not to mention the "Grande Exercises" that we usually hear.... I wondered if anyone could play it perfectly. But rest assured! At last, we are pleased to present the "Super-Exercises" as well. There must be no more than five pianists, including Filipetz, who have recorded this completely. The first draft version of the famous "La Campanella" (with the melody of Paganini's Violin Concerto mixed in) and the "Second Draft" of the No. 4 are of course included (for this piece, if you wanted to hear a perfect performance, you had to rely on "typing").
