In June 1969, the HK Monaro was replaced by the updated HT Monaro. The 'GTS 327' model was renamed 'GTS 350' with the introduction of a more powerful Chevrolet 350 in3 (5.7 L) V8 engine producing 300 hp (224 kW). This change was largely a response to Ford's introduction of the XW Falcon GTHO Phase I in 1969, as the Monaro was Holden's main car in Series Production racing.

The HT Monaro differed from the HK with plastic grilles instead of metal, two section taillights separated by a blacked-out panel, and a round speedometer replacing the previous "strip" style, allowing for the tachometer to be incorporated into the main instrument cluster instead of on the floor console.

Additionally, the HT featured two broad stripes down the centre of the car and twin air scoops/vents on the bonnet, although these served no real purpose in delivering air into the engine bay.
