The opera (serenata) "Angelica" by Nicola Porpora, one of the leading composers of the Neapolitan school of music, was composed as an occasion music to celebrate a festive event at the court, and its libretto was adapted into a play. It is also known as the first work by the playwright Metastasio and the debut of Carlo Broschi, a castrato who later gained fame as "Farinelli". The music of Porpora, who was considered a rival of Handel's during his London period and studied under Haydn during his Vienna period, is full of gorgeous colors and rich musical ideas. The production, stage design, and costumes are by renowned clothing designer Gianluca Falaschi.The singing team includes Ekaterina Bakanova as the title role and Teresa Iervolino as Orlando, and La Lilla di Orfeo (led by Raffaele Pae) will perform a dynamic and lyrical performance under the baton of master musician Federico Maria Sardelli, who is active mainly in ancient music performance.
