Japan, a volcanic country, has many thermal springs and pools with mineral-rich waters. Known as “onsen” these places of relaxation are sometimes found outside, giving a panoramic view over mountains, forests and rivers. The sides of the pools are often beautifully decorated with small tiles, a reminder of Japanese refinement. Their natural colours reflect the tranquil beauty of the surrounding landscapes. This place of communion with nature is translated on to a sisal base embroidered with small squares in delicate colours.
