Description:
Monteverdi was one of the most famous composers of the Italian Baroque period. He wrote numerous religious works and operas, the most important of which is the eight-volume collection of madrigals (the ninth volume was published after the composer's death). The eighth volume is the culmination of Monteverdi's musical technique up to that time, and is a collection of dramatic pieces. Some of the works include narrative pieces such as "The Battle of Tancredi and Clorinda," which is sometimes performed as a stand-alone opera, and "The Ballo of the Unsympathetic Women," which was actually first performed 30 years earlier. All of the vocal parts in the Délitie Musique are sung by male voices, which is an ideal recreation of the way the work was performed in the 17th century. Cupid sung by a male soprano is very attractive. This is the first recording of the entire work without any cuts. Naxos Japan
