Description:

In 1999, after an unfortunate incident in which he suffered severe burns covering 60% of his body, Augustin Harderich overcame more than 20 surgeries and rehabilitation with his strong mental strength and made a miraculous comeback. Winner of the 2006 Indianapolis International Violin Competition and the 2016 Grammy Award for "Best Classical Instrumental Soloist," Augustin Harderich is a violinist of exceptional virtuosity and technique. His debut for Warner Classics in early 2018 was another very different landmark of the original violin repertoire, "Paganini: 24 Caprices". Gramophone Magazine recognized his imagination and ability to transcend purely technical challenges, writing, "Harderich plays these pieces not as studies, but as tone poems, even rhapsodies. I would like to experience this music first and foremost as music," and highly recommended his interpretation to listeners. It was during this period, when the new Corona had eliminated concerts, that Harderich embarked on a huge project to delve into Bach's masterpieces and record the entire works. In this recording, Harderich finds his own new interpretation, using baroque bowing and a fusion of modern and ancient techniques. Harderich's description of how he employed a particular, historically informed approach to this recording of his own performance of this work, which is discussed below, is "an ideal guide to Harderich's journey to the Chaconne at its pinnacle," according to The Washington Post. The essence of Harderich's playing is beauty. Enjoy the myriad ways in which he creates phrases. It comes alive on the violin, conveying and revealing the musical message without technical obstacles."--Harderich, Bach, Chaconne 《Harderich talks about Bach's performance of the Sonatas and Partitas for Solo Violin "Among the most typical works written for the violin, it is a formidable test of musical imagination and expression, technical ability and stamina.Like many violinists, I have studied and played these works all my life because they continue to provide challenge, hope, and joy. I first encountered Bach at the age of seven in the Prelude and Gavotte of Partita No. 3 and the Adagio of Sonata No. 1. Bach's mastery of counterpoint gives the illusion that his music is academic and rigorous ... but it is not. All of his music is full of emotion and exudes a life-affirming joy. For centuries, we hear an extraordinary and humble human being speaking to us. (1/2) Warner Music Japan
