Playing the Maestro Ruse, Frescobaldi Frescobaldi is a composer who combines improvisation and architecture in a prodigious way. Frescobaldi's works are rich in song, rooted in the Italian madrigale, richly inventive, and full of virtuoso character. Rousset plays on a harpsichord dating from the late 16th century, and he brings Frescobaldi's innovative sound back to life with aplomb. The melodic harmonies may seem somewhat old-fashioned, but the free rhythms with a sense of improvisation still fascinate listeners. This is a piece that beautifully recreates the delicate light and shadow-like expression of Caravaggio's paintings. King International
