Often in landscape photography you have to play the conditions that are dealt with you. Much to my disappointment the conditions on this day were flat, uninteresting with white-out conditions rendering visibility to only a few meters. As I was driving along the Great Alpine Road on the way to Mount Hotham, I noticed a cluster of snow gums crusted in ice from some rain the previous night. I pulled over to the side of the road and used the white-out conditions to create a sense of mystery and depth behind the ice-crusted tree. It almost feels like an unknown abyss.
