In the 17th century, Protestant church music developed a form of narrative (historia) in which the story of the Nativity, Passion, and Resurrection of Christ is told in Luther's biblical words, and it developed in many places. The Dresden church musician Heinrich Schütz also adopted this form as early as 1623 and wrote a variety of works. The Christmas Story, composed in 1660, when Schütz was 75 years old, depicts the Nativity of Jesus using words from the Bible, and is full of happiness as the songs of angels, shepherds, doctors of the East, chief priests, jurists, and King Herod are connected by the recitative of the evangelist (evangelist). The content is full of euphoria. Schütz himself wrote in the preface to the work, "This work (concerto) of ten pieces can be reworked by anyone according to the material available at the time. In this album, the members of Ensemble Poliharmonique have followed Schütz and his contemporaries in creating a new "Christmas Story" with six voices and bass passages for two violins, organ, theorbo, baroque harp, and other instruments.
