Description:
The eternal Notre Dame Cathedral. Liszt's "Way to the Cross". One of the Notre Dame Cathedral Choir's most famous choruses of the early 2000s, Liszt's "The Way to the Cross" was reissued as a prayer for the restoration of Notre Dame Cathedral, the symbol of Paris, France, the Roman Catholic cathedral that suffered a massive fire. The program opens with the Gregorian chant "The King's Banner," continues with Liszt's work of the same title based on this chant, "The Way to the Cross" for mixed chorus, solo voice, and organ (or piano), and ends with "Ave Verum Corpus" composed in 1871 in a solemn and moving manner. The program is also excellent. This recording reminds us that although the road to rebuilding Notre Dame Cathedral is far from over, the prayers, wishes, and thoughts of the people who visit the cathedral remain unchanged.
