One of the major factors in making this land known as a music city was the now legendary UK indie label, Factory Records, which was founded by Tony Wilson, a journalist who had hosted music programs for the BBC and Granada TV, a Manchester-based TV station, and his partner, Alan Wilson, who was also a musician. The label was founded in 1978 by Alan Erasmus, Tony's partner, producer Martin Hannett, and artwork/designer Peter Saville.The label established a unified sound and visual style, assigned catalog numbers not only to recordings but also to posters and artwork, continued to support artists' free creative activities, and opened a big hole in the post-punk British rock scene with a policy that did not fit into any existing system. The label is truly worthy of its "legendary" name.To commemorate the 40th anniversary of the founding of this legendary label, an exhibition of Factory Records will be held in the UK from September 13th to October 25th, and the label's catalogue from FAC 1 to FAC 10 (including posters, 7" singles, stationery and sound recordings) will be reissued.
