Description:

Azimuth, a group that is still immensely popular as a synonym for Brazilian fusion/rare groove, has been gaining fans year after year, with DJs and track makers alike re-evaluating not only their records released in the 1970s, but also their recent works from the late 1980s through the recent years. Keyboardist José Roberto Beltrami, who established the spacy sound that characterizes the Azimuth sound, sadly passed away in 2012, but drummer Ivan Conti and bassist Alex Marieiros have each continued to work tirelessly. For this new recording, the band invited keyboardist Kiko Continentino, who has worked with Milton Nascimento, Gilberto Gil, Javan, and others, and percussionist Jobertinho Silva as a guest. The Brazilian disco title track, "Orange Crows," a jazzy jazz funk song, and "Corumba," a deep spacey samba, all show the potential for further fusion of experimentalism and improvisation, while maintaining the Azimuth sound.The evolved Azimuth takes flight like a phoenix. This is a work that should not be missed by Brazilian music fans and rare groove fans alike.
