The latest release in the "Songs of the World" series by conductor Markus Creed and the Southwest German Radio Vocal Ensemble is a collection of modern French choral music. The war was a national policy to "develop a uniquely French culture. However, Wagner's chromatic scale technique was also popular in France at the end of the 19th century, and the sound produced by the gradual collapse of tonality attracted many composers, including Debussy. Debussy further developed the fascinating harmony while at the same time attempting to break away from it, culminating in impressionist music after "Pelléas et Mélisande".
