Description:
Charles (also Charles) Meyer is a pianist and composer from Königsburg, Germany. He moved to Moscow as a child, where he received musical instruction from his mother, a pianist, and later studied with John Field, who helped him develop his own style of composition and performance. After establishing his reputation as a pianist, he settled in St. Petersburg. He trained many pupils, including Glinka, and wrote more than 300 works, including many piano pieces. In his later years, he moved to Dresden, where he remained until his death. The two piano collections on this album are both salon-style works in the Romantic tradition, reminiscent of Schumann and Mendelssohn. Each piece has its own title and is written in a technically simple manner, which makes it a challenge to the performer's interpretation and expression. Luigi Gerosa is an Italian pianist who specializes in works from J.S. Bach to the Romantic period. His recordings of Kalkbrenner's sonatas (CDS-7661, 7707), Schlater's sonatas (CDS-602), and Heller's piano works (CDS-7747) are highly regarded. Naxos Japan
