Thielemann & SKD's Bruckner Cycle Early Masterpiece, Symphony No. 2! Recorded at the Elbphilharmonie! Thielemann and the Staatskapelle Dresden's Bruckner Symphony Cycle, a project that has been underway since Thielemann's appointment as Chief Conductor in 2012, is now available from No. 1 to No. 9 with the release of No. 2. Bruckner's second symphony is less often performed than the more popular third and later symphonies, but it is a lyrical, beautiful, and deeply appealing work. Like Bruckner's other symphonies, it exists in several versions. Thielemann has used the edition by William Callaghan, who is an authority on Bruckner's editions. Bruckner completed his D minor symphony, which he intended to be his second, in 1869, three years after composing his first, but sealed it without numbering. The work is now known as "No. 0. Again, No. 2 was composed in 1872. Five years after the first draft, a large-scale revision (second draft) was made in 1877. This paper is the version of the second draft revised by Callaghan.The recording locations for this cycle varied, but this time it was at the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg, which has been in the news for some time.
