At the end of the 17th century, Ireland lost the war against England. The aristocrats who had protected the foundations of Irish culture were exterminated or forced to flee the country, and it is said that Irish music lost its defenders and its traditions were cut off. Musicians did not die easily, however, as Scottish and Irish music became popular in London from time to time in the 18th century, and the melodies of legendary composers were published in sheet music. The best suited to recreate the 18th century music were, of course, the old instrumentalists who were skilled in reviving the music of the 18th century with the instruments and techniques of the time. The album is a combination of carefully researched and outstanding musicianship, and is a superb album of Irish old-time music. The Lazarevich recording, an anthology of Irish music with similar old instruments, is also popular, and this new Irish recording is one that raises expectations.
