Description:
Amazing. This is Afanasyev's Beethoven. Russian pianist Valery Afanasyev is regarded as a genius of the contemporary classical piano world. The individualistic Afanasyev was eager to record for Sony Classical and chose Beethoven's most famous piano sonatas, "Passion," "Moonlight," and "Pathétique," which were performed by the pianist. Beethoven is an important part of Afanasyev's repertoire, along with Schubert and Bach, and he has been actively recording his piano works from early on, including "Bagatelle Collection," "Diabelli Variations," and "Last Three Sonatas. And Afanasyev, who does not add new works to his repertoire until he is strongly convinced that he can perform them to the best of his ability, has made a recording of these three famous sonatas for the first time in his life at the age of 68. Although Afanasyev has recently released live recordings at concerts, this is a session recording made in Hanover. He employed an old acquaintance, Gerhard Betz, a famous German producer with whom he has produced such masterpieces as "Brahms: Interludes," to create an interpretation that has never been heard before.
