Description:

The "Originale" series re-releases rare original instrumental recordings by Teldec & Erato, a long-established "old music" label. The first performance of Biber's great piece, consisting of 53 voices, is said to have been given in Salzburg Cathedral in 1682. The fast tempo, high pitch, and grand reverberations are accompanied by clear and transparent chamber music. This monumental recording was made at the same place as the premiere, under the direction of Ton Koopman.
