Description:
Composer=Jazz Pianist Rembrandt Freliffs plays his own piano concerto! Dutch jazz pianist and composer Rembrandt Freliffs plays his own concerto! The latest release from the Dutch high-quality sound label TRPTK is a collection of self-performed piano concertos by Dutch jazz pianist and composer Rembrandt Frerifs, He teaches jazz piano at the Utrecht Conservatory and is a guest lecturer at conservatories in Padua, Rotterdam, Groningen, Amsterdam, and The Hague. As a composer, he has been commissioned by leading musicians such as Liza Verstman and the Amsterdam Sinfonietta, whose music has been used in television documentaries and theater. Commissioned by the musicians of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra (RCO) in Amsterdam, a completely new piano concerto was premiered in 2021 with Frerifs himself as soloist. Frerifs says, "Classical music and jazz are not as far apart as is commonly thought," and his work naturally blends the free improvisation and unique tension and rhythm of jazz with the diction and fluid sound of classical music.Backed by the Alma Quartet (all members of the RCO) led by Marc-Daniel van Beemen, leader of the Camerata RCO, and Benjamin Peled, guest concertmaster of the Staatskapelle Berlin, and a superb string section including Dominique Seldis, principal double bass player of the RCO. The Alma Quartet, led by Benjamin Peredo (all members of the RCO) and a top-notch string section including Dominique Seldis, the RCO's principal double bassist, will gracefully drift between jazz piano and classical music.
