Why this kit matters

The Churchill AVRE, short for Armoured Vehicle Royal Engineers, was developed by Britain during the Second World War to support assaults against fortified positions. Based on the Churchill infantry tank, the AVRE carried a massive 290mm Petard mortar nicknamed the “Flying Dustbin” due to its large demolition projectile. It was designed to destroy bunkers, barriers, and defensive strongpoints during Allied assaults.

Churchill AVRE vehicles played a major role during the Normandy landings and later operations across Europe. They were part of the specialised “Hobart’s Funnies” vehicles created for difficult battlefield conditions. Their engineering role and unusual appearance make them popular subjects among military historians and scale modellers alike.
