Astragalus  

The root of the Astragalus plant has been extensively studied in Asia.  It is most well known for its effect on the immune system.  It increases the activity of immune cells, resulting in more efficient responses to infection and reversing states of immune suppression.  In contrast to the immune boosting properties of some herbs, Astragalus can be taken for long periods of time (several months) without showing a decrease in the response of the immune system.  Astragalus also has antiviral  properties. Kyolic 103 Immune contains 50mg of astragalus.

Oregano

Oregano extracts have antibacterial, antiviral and antifungal activity. Chronic infections, like candidiasis, and contagious new viruses, like SARS, seem to be inhibited by oregano.  Oregano not only kills infecting microbes in the respiratory tract but also acts as an expectorant (helps to expel mucus) and antispasmodic (relieves coughing).  There is 50 mg of oregano extract in Kyolic 103 Immune.

Olive leaf

The extract of the leaf has been found to have antibacterial, antiviral, antifungal and ant parasitic activity.  Even new emerging viruses, like SARS, seem to be inactivated by compounds in olive leaf.  It interferes with the microbe’s use of amino acids so that they cannot grow and multiply.  Olive leaf also promotes the growth of beneficial organisms in our gastrointestinal tract, probiotics.  Probiotic organisms protect us from infections with harmful microbes. Olive leaf may be recommended for treating colds, yeast infections, parasitic infections like tapeworm, hookworm, flatworm and roundworm, viral infections, and bacterial infections. Kyolic 103 Immune is formulated with 40 mg of olive leaf.

Medicinal mushrooms  

Long used as an immune system treatment in traditional Chinese medicine, mushroom extracts such as shitake, maitake and agaricus have been studied for their immune boosing effect on the immune system's killer T cell activity.  Kyolic 103 Immune's medicinal mushroom content is a blend of 75 mg.
