Carolyn Sampson's "Madness". While there are many masterpieces in opera that quietly and horribly reproduce women's passions, there are also songs about heroines who die madly or take their own lives as martyrs to their love. This is an excellent project that brings together these works. Sampson, who had shown his "good behavior" in Bach's religious works, is surprised to see his openness and blatant expression of female sexuality. Shakespeare was a great writer who made this his specialty. In particular, Ofelia in "Hamlet" is famous for her frenzy after her father is killed by her lover Hamlet, and many composers have taken up this theme. While Brahms and Richard Strauss are excellent in their psychological portrayals, Saint-Saëns' calm accompaniment and Chausson's unrealistic beauty are more skillful in expressing Ofelia's maidenhood. Another great writer, Goethe's Mignon in "Wilhelm Meister's Apprenticeship" dies of shock when she sees her beloved Wilhelm kissing another woman. And in "Faust," Greatchen is the mad mother who takes her child in her hands because she cannot bear to see her beloved Faust.The "Song of Bilitis" by Pierre Louis of France, featuring a sad woman who repeats her itinerant love life, including even homosexuality, has been made into a masterpiece by Debussy and Keklan. The highlight is Poulenc's "The Lady of Monte Carlo" on a poem by Cocteau. It is a crazy monologue play in which a woman commits suicide and talks alone, but the way she becomes excited by the woman's language is like a play that draws you in. Sampson's acting talent is on full display as she conveys the sadness and fear of women. King International
