Recorded using the famous instrument that bears the name "Grappelli"! This recording was made using the favorite instrument of the French jazz god, Stéphane Grappelli. This "Grappelli" violin, made by Pierre Elle, is in the collection of the Musée de la Musique in Paris, and is not only a testament to the fine art of violin making in Paris at the beginning of the 20th century, but also an important instrument in the history of jazz. The player, Matthias Lévy, is a jazz musician born in 1982. He studied classical piano and violin, as well as solfege, but he became more interested in jazz (especially John Zorn) and gypsy violin. He plays with great skill and a deep sense of rhythm and harmony, which he has acquired from various styles of music. Pierre Elle, a maker of musical instruments, was aiming to become a Garneri. The 1924 "Grappelli" instrument was made at the height of Pierre Elle's career, and was used by Enesco on his 1924 tour of the U.S. Pierre Elle was a close friend of performers such as Thibaud and Ysaÿe.The first owner was Michel Warlop. He dedicated the instrument to Grappelli in 1929. In the 1980s, Grappelli began to use Guadagnini instruments.
