Niccolò Paganini, the «demonic violinist» from Genoa, explored and employed the violin as no other composer; his six violin concertos represent the epitome of virtuoso music in this genre. The so-called fifth concerto was most likely his last work for this form, written late in his life.

The second concerto for violin became an extremely popular «hit» due to the «Campanella» [bell] theme in the third movement, which gave rise to countless imitations. Swiss violinist Alexandre Dubach is ac-companied by the Orchestre Philharmonique de Monte-Carlo under the direction of Lawrence Foster.

This is the second CD in a collection featuring all of Paganini’s violin concertos.
