Description:
Guitarist Kenny Burrell made his Blue Note Records debut in 1956, and over the next seven years released a series of excellent albums on Blue Note Records, but this album, Midnight Blue, recorded and released in 1963, is his masterpiece. With a deep, soulful cast that includes Stanley Tallentine on tenor saxophone, Major Holly Jr. on bass, drummer Bill English, and Ray Barrett on congas, the band goes deep into the blues and creates a charming late-night atmosphere. Burrell's original compositions "Chitlins con Carne," "Midnight Blue," "Saturday Night Blues," and the wonderful solo guitar piece "Soul Lament" round out this timeless classic. This year Burrell celebrates his 90th birthday! Personnel] Kenny Burrell (g)Stanley Turrentine (ts) Major Holley (b) Bill English (ds) Ray Barretto (conga)
