Mazini String Quartet
Description:
This is a collection of chamber music works centered around the string quartet, which forms the core of the 20th century British musical repertoire. From the late Romanticism to the modern era, composers of what might be called "English Impressionism" were active in England, where a unique chamber music culture was formed, and many beautiful works skillfully incorporating English folk tunes were produced. The brilliance of young talent in Britten and Iceland, the energetic work of Elgar in his mature period, the masterful compositional craftsmanship of Bridge and Rowthorn, the pastoral expressions of Bliss and Backus, and the rural landscapes of Vaughan Williams, are all reflected in the styles of these composers, as well as in the works of two-time Grammy Award nominee Mazzini, whose works are also featured in this program. The Mazzini String Quartet, nominated twice for a Grammy Award, accurately portrays each composer's style. Naxos Japan
