Brunetti, Gaetano (1744-1798)
Description:
Brunetti was a composer of Italian origin. He studied under the brilliant violinist Pietro Nardini and moved with his parents to Madrid around 1760-62, where in 1767 he became a member of the Spanish royal court orchestra and was appointed violin teacher and music instructor to the Dauphin Carlos III. After the death of Carlos III, he joined the Royal Chamber Orchestra, organized by Carlos IV, where he played violin, and in 1795 was appointed conductor of the Royal Chamber Orchestra. He wrote numerous works for performance before the king, mostly orchestral and chamber works, most of which were never published and have been largely forgotten since his death. This oboe sextet was also written for King Carlos IV, and manuscripts and other data suggest that it was written between 1796 and 1798. It is a charming music full of graceful melodies in a classical form. Roberto Ciria is an oboist who studied in Valencia, where he began his career at the age of 22 as principal oboist of the Orquesta Sinfonica de Porto, and is currently principal oboist of the Orquesta Nacional de España. He has made numerous guest appearances, and in 2008 he participated in an online audition for the YOU TUBE Symphony Orchestra, where he performed with Michael Tilson Thomas, which was a big hit.
