Description:
Julius Berger is a master cellist who participated in Rostropovich's master classes and performed with him in later years. He is a soloist of both classical and contemporary music, and has made many recordings on the WERGO label. This collection of unaccompanied works commemorates the 150th anniversary of Reger's birth. The program is an interesting look at the development of a genre inspired by Bach's suites in the 20th century. The suite written by the famous violinist Adolph Busch for his cellist brother Hermann transcends the neo-baroque style. The "Passacaglia" by English composer Donald Francis Tovey, a friend of the Busch brothers and praised as a genius by Casals, has an expansiveness reminiscent of Bach's "Chaconne," and the CD title "Soldanella" is a reference to the snowy mountains, where flowers bloom from the melting snow, " Soldanella alpina", after the "Soldanella alpina". The image of a beautiful thing born in an unexpected place is superimposed on the music. King International
