Description:

The Innsbruck Music Festival, held in the Tyrol region of Austria, is known for its unusual Baroque operas, and the 2021 festival opened with the opera "Idalma" by Italian composer Pasquini. Pasquini was active as an organist in Rome in the mid-1650s, and after serving the Borghese family for more than 40 years, he was admitted to the Accademia dell'Arcadia in 1706, along with Corelli and Alessandro Scarlatti, He was a highly regarded musician at the time. The "Idalma" was performed at the Teatro Capranica during the Carnival of 1680, and was based on the theme of "fidelity and unwavering love between husband and wife," a favorite theme among the aristocracy of the 17th century, but was forgotten soon after its premiere. Conductor Alessandro de Marchi, artistic director of the festival, and cellist and researcher Giovanna Barbati have completed a new version of the opera based on the composer's own handwritten manuscript in order to revive this work that has been buried in history for nearly 350 years. You will enjoy expressive and brilliant arias reminiscent of Handel, magnificent ensembles with rich timbres, and beautiful music that portrays ever-changing effects and dramatic situations.
