Novak, Vitezslav (1870-1949)
Description:
Czech composer Vycheslav Novák was active in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. This album contains two of his most popular works. The first is the "Slovak (Moravian-Slavic) Suite," based on a piano piece, which depicts a scene of lovers spending a day in a Slovak village. Here, one can enjoy colorful music that blends idyllic melodies and Slovak folk songs. The "Two Valashsko Dances" was originally performed by Novák and Janácek for four-handed piano in 1897, and was arranged for solo piano and then orchestrated. The orchestral version here was forgotten without ever being performed, and this is the first time it has been recorded. The organ plays an important role in the piece, which closes with a triumphant, heroic flourish. Naxos Japan
