Donizetti (1797-1848)
Description:
A DVD box containing 9 fascinating works by Donizetti is now available! Born in Bergamo, Italy, Donizetti, along with his contemporaries Rossini and Bellini, was a leading figure in the popularization of Italian opera. Most of his operas feature women as the main characters or, if not, they are featured in impressive music. Between 1818 and 1843, Donizetti composed almost 70 operas, many of which were widely popular. Many of them won wide popularity. His first success was "Anna Bolena" in 1830, and from then on he produced a series of beautiful works together with another Italian composer, Bellini. Some of them rank among the masterpieces of 19th century opera, but unfortunately, many of his early works were forgotten over time and rarely performed. However, in the late 1900's, with the birth of great singers, Donizetti's forgotten operas were revived one after another, and their true value has been reevaluated. This box contains nine operas in which Donizetti's personality shines through. These include not only well-known works such as his masterpiece "Lucia di Lammermoor" and the aforementioned "Anna Bolena," but also rare works such as "Elisabetta at Kenilworth Castle" and "Favorita," a rare French-language version of the play, which was recorded for the first time in the world. The entire production features contemporary "Donizetti heroines" such as Mariella DeVere, Patricia Cioffi, Carmela Remigio, Sonia Ganassi, Jessica Pratt, and many others. The audience will be able to fully enjoy the wonderful singing along with the beautiful images. Naxos Japan
