Singer, songwriter, producer, arranger, and multi-instrumentalist Andrew Gold's (1951-2011) Halloween Howls is now available on vinyl for the first time, with a 70s-inspired psychedelic design This best-selling family favorite is housed in a gatefold jacket with goulish cover art by illustrator Jess Rotter, who has worked with the Grateful Dead, Questlove, Yusuf/Cat Stevens, Harry Nilsson, and others on the '70s-inspired psychedelic designs. The work includes the viral hit "Spooky, Scary Skeletons" as well as the danceable "Undead Tombstone" remix as a special bonus. Andrew Gold set out to record "Halloween Howls" to fill a serious void in Halloween music, as he is both a singer-songwriter and parent of hit songs.Each holiday has its own mood and its own music," he wrote in the album's original liner notes. In the process, he enlisted his musical friends to help him record Halloween classics ("Monster Mash," "The Addams Family," "Ghostbusters"), "It Must Be Halloween," "In Our Haunted House," and of course "Spooky, Scary Skeletons," and other whimsical and spooky original song collaborations; the album, released in 1996, features Linda Ronstadt, David Cassidy, and Nicolette Larson, along with acclaimed songwriters Carla Bonoff and Steven Bishop participated in the project.Upon its release, the album received numerous awards, including "Notable Children's Record" from the American Library Association, "Honors" from the National Association of Parenting Publishers Awards (NAPPA), and "Gold" from the Parent's Choice Awards. Nearly 15 years after the album's release, "Spooky, Scary Skeletons" became a worldwide phenomenon when a YouTuber combined it with the 1929 Disney animation "The Skeleton Dance." The video has received more than 34 million views and helped to boost the song's popularity. More recently, a new generation of fans has embraced "Spooky, Scary Skeletons" thanks to a dance craze conceived by TikTok star Boomer (@minecrafter2011). over 7 million clips have been uploaded on TikTok and celebrities such as Will Smith have joined the dance phenomenon. The single debuted at #1 on the 2020 Billboard Children's Chart and #2 on TikTok's Weekly Top Tracks chart.
