The F-111 Aardvark was designed as an all-weather multi-role aircraft by General Dynamics. It was the result of the requirement in the 1960s for a long-range interceptor to the US Navy and a deep-strike interdictor to the USAF, but the Navy versions failed, so the project ended as a strike aircraft.
