Born in the United States, she moved to Paris at the age of 4. She entered the prestigious Paris Conservatory at the age of 9 and graduated with first prize (Premier Prix) at the age of 11 (first prize also went to Eula Guller, followed by Clara Haskil in second place), making a name for herself as a child prodigy pianist. She studied piano in Paris with Marguerite Long and Elie-Miriam Delaborde (a pupil of Alkan), and in Vienna with Theodor Resheticki, and is known not only for her performances but also as a professor at the Paris Conservatory and teacher of Cyprien Katsaris and Jean-Philippe Collard.
