A vivid field recording of a trancey and shocking performance at Jamaa el Fna, the square of the dead! Jamaa el Fna, a square in the old town of Marrakech, Morocco. This square is lined with food and drink stalls from evening to late at night, and is a lively place where street performers and other performers appear. This album is a field recording of street musicians performing at one of Jama El Fna's most famous spots. They play covers of protest songs by national bands that dominated in the 1970s and folk songs with an Islamic flavor. The band's percussion performance is a complete departure from the original, and is accompanied by a frenzy of distorted banjo, mandolin, oud, and other stringed instruments, all powered by a car battery.
