This amazing carved dragonfly pottery is from San Juan de Oriente, a village that sits upon deep deposits of clay created by past volcanic activity. The clay is thrown and painted using mineral oxides, carved, sgraffito style, using tools made from found objects., then fired in a  wood-burning kiln, constructed from adobe bricks in a traditional beehive configuration, and polished.
