Bruckner (1824-1896)
Description:
Robin Ticciati, who also led the Scottish Chamber Orchestra last year (2018) in recording the complete Brahms symphonies with a small orchestra, has a new recording of Bruckner! The new recording is of the Bruckner symphonies, but this time with a magnificent orchestra of eight double basses. Often regarded as the least popular of Bruckner's symphonies, No. 6 has recently become widely known for the plaintive and deeply sorrowful melody of its second movement, the Adagio. Nevertheless, it took courage to choose No. 6 as the first piece in a Bruckner recording, and Ticciati's devotion and confidence in this piece can be seen. Ticchiati has already performed Bruckner's Symphony No. 6 with the Vienna Symphony Orchestra and the Norwegian Philharmonic Orchestra of Bergen. As praised by The Guardian as a "remarkable and expansive" interpretation, Ticchiati's unexpected affinity with the composer is likely to open up new horizons in Bruckner interpretation in the 21st century.Although there are high expectations for future recordings, we would first like to take the time to appreciate the aptitude of No. 6 in its endlessly rich sound world.
