Description:

This is a collection of pieces for viola and organ written in the 20th and 21st centuries. This is a combination of sounds rarely heard, but its somewhat exotic tone gives it a unique charm. Swedish composer Schold's Fantasy is in a heavy chorale style. The viola sings a sad melody at the end of the piece. Two works by the British composer Bowen in a romantic style, and the "Church Sonata" by the contemporary Austrian composer Leitner and the Swiss Martin, are novel compositions in the style of the Baroque period with modern elements such as 12-tone scales. Both Royer and Leitner, who studied at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg, specialize in contemporary music and give excellent performances on this album. Naxos Japan
