Brahms (1833-1897)
Description:
Transparent serenity, understated passion! Michele Campanella's Brahms Pieces! Michele Campanella's third release for ODRADEK is a collection of three Brahms pieces titled "Retrospective". It may seem surprising that Campanella, who is known as a Liszt player, would play Brahms' austere collection of small pieces, but this is far more wonderful than expected. Campanella plays the piano with great restraint, and his exquisite balance of clear serenity with rich poetic sentiment and understated passion is quite astonishing. The slow pieces, such as the Interlude in A flat major, Op.76, the A major Interlude and E flat minor Interlude, Op.118, and the B minor Interlude, Op.119, are especially moving. The commentary is also written by Campanella himself (in English and Italian), and his insight in quoting Nietzsche and talking about Brahms is probably directly reflected in his performance.
