Description:
American composer and pianist George Antheil is best known for his autobiography "The Bad Boy of Music. He is best known for his avant-garde works such as "Ballet Mechanique," which was strongly influenced by Stravinsky, but in his later years, he also created easygoing and enjoyable works such as film music, which were also very popular. The "Jazz Symphony" is now often performed in its "one piano and orchestra" version, which was revised in 1955, but this is the original version, which requires three pianos. This is a gorgeous and enjoyable piece that is steeped in the "jazz flavor" that dominated the period. The ballet music "Capital of the world" based on Hemingway's novel is a fantastic story. The suite version of this work, which influenced Bernstein, is performed here. Naxos Japan
