Michelina Williamson is a painter who began her art practice as an experimental filmmaker. Williamson graduated from the Ontario College of Art’s New Media program in 1991 and exhibited work in Toronto, Montreal and Germany. In 2010, she obtained a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from Ontario College of Art and Design University and the next year took up painting.

Tranquility

My creative process involves working from my photographs, sketches and memories. I use a minimalist approach to painting in that I strip down a scene or subject to its essence. Then I use only what I feel is necessary to convey the emotion held within places and infuse those elements with rich, bold colours. My painting process is a delicate balance between colour and composition choices and the intuitive expression of paint application. 

Through painting, I explore the human connection to nature and strive to reveal the emotion held within places as well as the emotion we give to places. For me, the painting, Tranquility, evokes feelings of serenity. I feel calm and content. I invite you to explore the emotions this painting gives to you.
