Description:
Nara Leon is the muse of Bossa Nova. She is also known as a pioneer who "discovered" important composers who later led the MPB, such as Sico Buarruchi and Caetano Veloso. But if you look carefully at his repertoire, you will notice that he has sung many older songs concurrently with them. Nala has released 23 LPs under her own name, and of the 289 songs she has recorded during that time, 37 are old songs originally released in the SP era. If we include the classical songs he sang in his outside projects, Nala recorded a total of 49 old Brazilian songs during his lifetime. We thoroughly researched these classic songs. This album is a collection of the original recordings or equivalent recordings. This is, of course, the first attempt of its kind in the world. The purpose of this album is, of course, to help people learn more about the unknown side of the singer, Nara Leon. Nala's classic covers were inspired by the great João Gilberto. As introduced on the Rice disc "João Gilberto Loves Samba" (BSR-3010), João also loves old-time samba, and since his youth he has taken many hits by Orlando Silva and Silo Monteiro, as well as works by his favorite composer, Gerardo Pereira. He inherited this attitude from João. The muse of Bossa Nova inherited this attitude from João. She continued to evolve her approach by singing the famous songs of prewar female stars such as Carmen Miranda and Alassi de Almeida, whom she learned about from her husband Kaká Žiguez's father's SP collection. He reached further depths with "Lindoneia," which is considered a foreshadowing of Tropicália. Even in such an innovative work, Nalla was secretly working with early 20th-century choro and even an ancient song, mozinha, that originated in the 18th century. It was around this time that Nala's "return to his roots" became clear. This album is a compilation of a large number of original recordings of classical songs sung by Nala. The contents include samba, which she learned from João Gilberto, mozinha, and choro, and in the latter half of the album, folk songs that Nala was familiar with before she made her debut. In other words, this is a "history of Brazilian music" as seen through the eyes of Nala Leão. Like "João Gilberto's Beloved Samba," this album will surely change your perception of Bossa Nova. As usual, the booklet is full of detailed explanations and rare photos, and the SP era sound sources are also presented in a gentle and good sound. Recommended for all music fans interested in Nara Leon, Bossa Nova, MPB, etc.
