Description:
Liszt's masterpiece "Hungarian Rhapsody" was completed in 1853. It was the peak of his creative period. The "Hungarian Romances" were written in the same year. Eduard (Ed) Remenyi, who is known to have worked with the young Brahms, collaborated with Liszt when he visited Weimar and was under Liszt's tutelage for a period of time. The themes are based on various melodies by Hungarian composers of the time, and basically consist of the same "slow part - rapid part" two-part structure as the rhapsodies, with some improvisatory scenes at key points. However, many of the pieces have not been preserved in their complete form, and after No. 13, they are almost like sketches and do not contain many of Liszt's characteristic superb techniques. The existence of this collection is not well known, and only recently has it been published as a result of recent research. Naxos Japan
