The Lion & Shield Wall Tapestry is an extract from The Lady & Unicorn Tapestries, crafted with precision by skilled Flemish weavers on a Jacquard loom using a delicate textured weave. These renowned tapestries are among the best-preserved examples from the Medieval era, with six currently on display at the Cluny Museum in Paris. They depict the senses of sight, smell, taste, touch, and hearing, along with a sixth sense known as "To my only desire". The design was created in Paris and woven in Brussels around 1470 by the renowned weaver Williem de Pannemaker for Jean Le Viste, whose family hails from Lyon and served under King Charles VIII. Notice the intricate "mille fleur" (thousand flowers) pattern, featuring a variety of tiny flowers such as pansies, violets, primroses, daisies, harebells, and periwinkles.
