Description:
The annual Brucknertage (Bruckner Week) at St. Florian's Abbey, Bruckner's birthplace, celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2017. The Symphony No. 5 was performed for this memorable festival. The French conductor Rémi Barrault, already well-known among Bruckner fans, gave an imposing performance. Barrault, who is known as a disciple of Celibidacke, has already released Symphonies Nos. 3, 6, 8, and 9, all of which are highly acclaimed for their masterful performances with slow tempi and thoughtful interpretation, just like Celibidacke. Even in this performance of No. 5, the work's power is underscored by a respect for strict counterpoint techniques, resulting in a wonderful performance. The rich soundscape of St. Florian's Abbey, known for its long reverberations, was also captured realistically in the recording at the highest level. All of this can be enjoyed in high sound quality taking advantage of the SACD specifications. Naxos Japan
